There is not a day that goes by in a cosmetic medical office that the question, “Is there anything other than surgery that can be done to tighten loose skin?” is not heard. Until very recently, the answer would have been no. But now we can respond with an enthusiastic YES! Thermage at our Dallas practice is a highly effective procedure available in the arsenal against aging. After vigorous clinical research and testing, this non-ablative device was cleared by the FDA for the treatment of wrinkles.

To learn more about Thermage in Dallas, request a consultation online or call (214) 631-7546 to make an appointment. What Is Thermage?

The Thermage device is a system that delivers radiofrequency energy to large areas of the skin in order to achieve skin contraction and tissue tightening. The superficial skin layers are cooled while heat is safely delivered to the collagen fibers deeper in the skin. This results in collagen contraction and ultimately the production of new collagen.

Published studies conducted by Thermage show measurable tightening, which gradually occurs over a 4 to 6-month period. However, many of our patients report seeing an earlier response. Thermage is used to tighten loose skin on the face, around the eyes, mouth, and jawline, as well as other body parts such as the abdomen and legs. Thermage may be used either alone or in combination with other skin treatments. For example, sun-damaged skin could be tightened with Thermage and then treated with a chemical peel or laser procedure to provide even pigmentation.

Candidates for Thermage

As with any procedure, choosing an appropriate candidate for the treatment is crucial in achieving the best results. The ideal candidate for this skin tightening technique is a person with mild to moderate skin laxity, one who is a borderline facelift patient. Unlike most laser treatments, this technique is not dependent upon a person’s skin color, making Thermage an option for almost anyone who wishes to tighten loose skin. If your skin retains its elasticity, but you want to reduce fat below the chin, a double chin injectable treatment called KYBELLA® may be a better treatment option.

What to Expect

Thermage is a simple procedure that is done on an outpatient basis in the office. Other than some mild redness for a day and tenderness for a few days, there are no visible signs of healing after treatment and no specific after care needed. Just a single treatment can provide very gratifying results; however, there are studies now that show these results may be improved by additional treatments at a later time.

Although the tightening is gradual and varies for each individual, Thermage has proven to be a safe, effective procedure. Perfect for those who are just noticing mild skin laxity or those who wish to tighten the skin but would never consider a surgical procedure. This procedure can set the aging time clock back a little and allows the patient to enjoy a tighter, firmer skin surface, which looks brighter and refreshed.
