Visible clusters of blue and purple spider veins can occur in both men and women as a result of many factors, such as aging, heredity, hormonal changes, and injury. Although these veins are not harmful, they are bothersome and are not necessary for normal circulation. With sclerotherapy vein treatment at our Dallas practice, you can lessen the look of spider veins and improve the appearance of your skin.
You don’t have to hide your legs any longer. Contact our doctors to get started and request a consultation online or call (214) 631-7546 to find out more. When you schedule a consultation for cosmetic procedures, you will also receive a customized “Total Skin Rejuvenation” plan to help you achieve your ideal look.
About Sclerotherapy for Veins
Sclerotherapy is a technique that has been around for decades to treat spider veins and some smaller varicose veins. At our Dallas practice, this procedure involves injecting a sclerosing solution directly into the small veins. As the solution comes into contact with the blood vessel, it irritates the blood vessel and causes it to seal off so that blood can no longer pass through the vein. After several weeks, many of the treated vessels will visibly disappear.
In our office, we use several FDA-approved solutions to treat spider veins, including Sotradecol®, Asclera® and hypertonic saline. Occasionally there are very small vessels that cannot be treated with injections. For these, we find that laser vein treatment is an effective alternative. In many cases, sclerotherapy and lasers are combined to achieve the best possible outcome. These procedures cause minimal discomfort and patients can return to their normal activities immediately. The only activity we limit is heavy pounding exercises and/or weight lifting for at least 48 hours after treatment.
What It Treats
Sclerotherapy is best for men and women with small to medium spider veins and some small varicose veins. It should be noted that multiple treatment sessions may be required to achieve the desired result, and in rare instances, some vessels may not respond. Common side effects include mild bruising immediately after treatment and a transient brown discoloration of the area for several weeks following the procedure. For these reasons, the fall and winter months are good times to consider sclerotherapy.
