Dermatologist Tricks For Minimizing Your Pores
You can’t shrink ’em, but you can make them look smaller.

BY MELANIE RUD
PUBLISHED:MAR 22, 2023

“True or false: You can shrink your pores.
If you answered true, you’re—to be blunt—wrong. But don’t sweat it: With so many products making that claim and influencers touting glass-like skin, it’s understandable that you’d get swept up in this misconception; there’s arguably no beauty topic more plagued with misinformation.” more

As emollients, face and body oils make wonderful moisturizers — but their benefits don’t just end there. Thanks to their ability to “strengthen the stratum corneum (the outermost layer of the skin),” according to Dr. Kristel Polder, M.D., they can also be used for skin repair.

January 19, 2019 – Dr. Polder talks about “Your Skincare Routine Should Include Hyaluronic Acid – Here’s Why” on @BestProductsdotcom   She shares one recommendation: @RevisionSkincare Hydrating Serum. “It contains sodium hyaluronate (hyaluronic acid) that helps provide hydration and moisturizes the skin without oil. Because of the hyaluronic acid within the formula, it attracts water and draws it into the skin.”

Dallas Doctors First to Perform Non-invasive Treatment for Upper Arm Fat

CoolSculpting technology receives FDA clearance to address concern of 14 million Americans.1

Dallas, Texas – August 3, 2017 – Dr. Lori Stetler and Dr. Kristel Polder, of Dallas Center for Dermatology and Aesthetics, are among the first doctors in Dallas to perform upper arm fat reduction treatment with CoolSculpting, the first and only FDA-cleared technology to address this area of the body.2

CoolSculpting works by gently cooling targeted fat cells in the body and producing a natural, controlled elimination of these fat cells without affecting surrounding tissue. While CoolSculpting has been used to treat other areas of the body, the recent FDA clearance of its CoolAdvantage™ Petite Applicator makes it the only non-invasive fat removal technology available in the U.S. to address upper arm fat.

“We’ve had a waiting list for months of patients who are ready to say goodbye to their ‘bat wings’,” says Dr. Polder. “Since we offer dual sculpting, we can treat both arms at the same time, and schedule patients for one session that only lasts 35 minutes.”

CoolSculpting is a safe and effective treatment for non-invasive fat reduction. The technology is FDA-cleared for the treatment of fat bulges in the submental (below the chin) area, thigh, abdomen, flank, bra and back fat area, underneath the buttocks and now, the upper arm.

Dr. Stetler explains that CoolSculpting is not a weight-loss treatment. “Each contouring treatment reduces about 20 to 25% of fat cells in the targeted area, and most people require two sessions to achieve their desired results,” says Dr. Stetler. “CoolSculpting is most effective for stubborn pockets of fat that just won’t go away with routine exercise and maintaining a healthy diet.”

Only a select group of dermatologists currently have access to the CoolAdvantage™ Petite Applicator, with a more expanded launch to follow in the coming weeks. CoolSculpting® is developed and marketed by ZELTIQ® Aesthetics, Inc. (Nasdaq:ZLTQ).

Dallas Doctors First to Perform VOLLURE for Laugh Lines

VOLLURE™XC first and only to smooth lines around nose and mouth with results up to 18 months

Dallas, Texas – April 11, 2017 – Dr. Lori Stetler and Dr. Kristel Polder, of Dallas Center for Dermatology and Aesthetics, are the first doctors in Dallas to perform JUVÉDERM VOLLURE™ XC, the first and only FDA-approved volumizing filler to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds with results through 18 months.1,2 The facial filler is designed to create a smoother appearance around the nose and mouth.

VOLLURE is a smooth gel formulation made up of a modified form of hyaluronic acid – a sugar that is naturally found within the skin. While VOLLURE has been used in other countries, the recent FDA approval makes it the first hyaluronic acid dermal filler of its kind available in the U.S.

“As we age, our skin loses elasticity. The lines and folds around the nose and mouth, known as nasolabial folds, become more prominent,” says Dr. Stetler, certified national trainer for Allergan. “Vollure is a longer lasting solution we can now offer to our patients to soften their troublesome ‘parentheses’ or laugh lines.”

Approved to last up to 18 months, VOLLURE is currently available with lidocaine integrated into the filler for a more comfortable procedure. In clinical studies, at six months after treatment, 82% of patients reported improvement in satisfaction of the treated area.3

“Vollure integrates into the skin for a natural, beautiful lift and contour,” adds Dr. Polder. “This new facial filler helps us advance the number one dermal treatment area with longer lasting results than similar fillers on the market.”

Only a select group of dermatologists currently have access to VOLLURE, with a more expanded launch to follow in the coming weeks. VOLLURE, marketed as part of Allergan’s JUVÉDERM line, is a soft, smooth gel appropriate for softening the appearance of nasolabial folds.

If a sunscreen says ‘water resistant’, then I do not need to reapply.

Not true. “Sunscreens should be reapplied according to specifications on the label, which the FDA has now stepped in and regulated as of recently. Tricks to Preventing (and Curing) Warm Weather Skin Disasters by @AlyWalansky

Oily Skin and Larger Pores. Many people notice these issues when the humidity rises. Consider adding a topical retinoid product to your nightly routine. This will promote increased skin cell turnover, smaller pores, and reduced fine lines. “Beware though: retinoids increase your chances of sunburn, so always wear at least an SPF 30 daily, higher when you’re out for longer periods, and reapply, reapply, reapply!” reminds Dr. Kristel Polder, a Dallas-based dermatologist.

Why One Week without Makeup Can Be Amazing for Your Skin by @AlyWalansky

Clear up problem skin: Going without makeup for a week, or even just over the weekend can help to decrease acne breakouts and open up your pores. “Avoiding occlusive skincare products, such as liquid foundations that tend to clog pores, can also reduce unwanted, non-acne skin breakouts,” says Kristel Polder, MD, board-certified dermatologist and skin care expert. A word of caution to the acne-prone: Look for products with “non-comedogenic” on the label to reduce the blackhead and whitehead breakouts.
