4 Tips To Help Make the Most of Nonsurgical Body Contouring Results

One of the most enduring cosmetic trends to emerge in the last decade has been the popularity of nonsurgical body contouring treatments like EMSCULPT® and CoolSculpting®. Our Dallas dermatology practice treats men and women who want to target trouble spots without the recovery needed after liposuction or other surgical body contouring procedures.

Once patients undergo the procedures, though, they often ask if there is anything they can do to enhance their results. There isn’t a trick to maximizing fat reduction results from these procedures, but there are a few steps patients can take to help maintain their outcomes.

How Does Nonsurgical Body Contouring Work?

There are different types of nonsurgical fat reduction and muscle toning treatments. CoolSculpting is typicallyconsidered the trailblazer in the field, having been cleared by the FDA in 2010 to treat the flanks. It has since been cleared to treat many other areas of the body using specially designed applicators that “freeze” fat cells using a process called cryolipolysis. You can see one of our patient’s CoolSculpting results in the before and after photos below—take a look at our photo gallery to see more CoolSculpting results.

EMSCULPT is a unique body contouring treatment that both builds muscle and reduces fat. It’s cleared by the FDA for use on the abdomen and buttocks. It works by delivering intense, focused electromagnetic energy to the treatment area. This energy stimulates thousands of involuntary muscle contractions that build muscle and burn fat.

For more dramatic results, some people opt to combine CoolSculpting and EMSCULPT, a highly effective body contouring combination we discuss in our related blog post.

Tips for Enhancing Your Results

Follow these tips to get the most out of your body contouring treatments:

  1. Drink plenty of water: Staying hydrated is the most important thing you can do after a nonsurgical body contouring procedure. The reason is simple—hydration helps eliminate fat cells more efficiently. There are many ways to hydrate, but water is the least costly and most readily available option.
  2. Avoid sodium: The flip side of staying hydrated is staying away from salt. Salt causes swelling and bloating (exactly what you don’t want after a body contouring treatment). In the long run, following a healthy diet is key to maximizing your treatment results. This means limiting your sugar intake and simple carbohydrates and consuming lean protein, plant-based fats, and fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants.
  3. Exercise regularly: Just as consuming healthy foods is important to maintain your results, exercising several days a week can help continue building muscle and keep fat off.
  4. Post-treatment massage: This is especially important immediately after a CoolSculpting procedure. To get the most out of this massage, choose a provider such as the Dallas Center for Dermatology and Aesthetics that uses the Zimmer ZWave after CoolSculpting. Instead of the manual massage performed by most practices, the ZWave breaks down the fibrous connective tissue associated with cellulite and helps smooth and tighten the skin. The non-invasive procedure helps accelerate the results of your CoolSculpting treatment without discomfort. We recommend that patients continue massaging the treated area a few times a day for several days after a CoolSculpting treatment to help the lymphatic system flush dead fat cells.
