The Many Benefits of BOTOX® for Men

Botox for men

Anyone browsing lifestyle magazines aimed at men is likely to come across the phrase “Brotox.” That bit of clever wordplay describes the rising trend of men getting BOTOX® injections to refresh and rejuvenate their faces and other areas.

Why Is BOTOX So Popular for Men?

BOTOX has long been the most popular cosmetic treatment in the world, but we’ve recently seen an increase in the number of men interested in getting the anti-wrinkle procedure. And that trend we’re seeing in north Texas is echoed throughout the country, according to Men’s Health magazine.

There are a few reasons men are more interested in maintaining a youthful appearance than they were even 10 years ago. Selfies and social media are motivating both women and men to pay more attention to their looks. With so many people posting photos to Facebook, online dating sites, LinkedIn, and other social media apps these days, it’s common to want to put your best face forward.

A competitive job market that values youth is another reason men are turning to nonsurgical aesthetic treatments such as BOTOX and dermal fillers.

In this blog post, I’ll describe how BOTOX works and why getting injections from a board-certified dermatologist can help men avoid results that look unnatural.

How BOTOX Works for Men

BOTOX minimizes the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines by temporarily immobilizing tiny muscles responsible for our facial expressions, such as when we squint or are worried. These muscle movements create what are called “dynamic wrinkles,” such as crow’s feet, vertical worry lines between the eyes, and horizontal forehead wrinkles. When injected by an expert, BOTOX relaxes these muscles.

BOTOX isn’t just for wrinkles, however. It also offers some unexpected uses, including for excessive sweating. You can learn more about other issues that are improved with BOTOX in our related blog post.

Creating a Natural Appearance

The most common concern of all BOTOX patients, but especially men, is that their faces will look “frozen” and unnatural after getting the treatment. We’ve all seen photos of celebrities who no longer even look like themselves after getting BOTOX injections. What we don’t see are the millions of patients who are thrilled with the natural, youthful appearances they have after BOTOX. You can see some of our patients’ stellar results in our BOTOX before-and-after photos.

Men considering BOTOX should first look for physicians certified by either the American Board of Dermatology or the American Board of Plastic Surgery to perform the treatments. Not everyone who provides BOTOX has the same level of expertise and knowledge of facial anatomy required to ensure consistently good results.

This is especially true for men because their aesthetic goals aren’t the same as the results women desire. The best BOTOX treatments for men tend to target the muscles around the eyes and forehead to create a rejuvenated appearance that still looks natural. We believe it’s important to be conservative with the injections and to avoid bruising because most male patients want to retain a distinguished appearance that includes some fine lines, but they don’t want to look like they’ve received a treatment.

Combining BOTOX and Fillers

Fillers work differently than BOTOX and address the loss of facial volume that occurs as we age. Most fillers these days are made using a substance called hyaluronic acid that occurs naturally in the body. If your cheeks look sunken or you have a hollowed-out appearance under the eyes, fillers are an excellent remedy. Combining BOTOX with fillers can create an overall youthful look that’s still natural. It’s so effective that this combination of treatments is often called a liquid facelift or nonsurgical facelift.
