CoolSculpting® Recovery Timeline & Results: What To Expect

One of the reasons nonsurgical fat reduction treatments such as CoolSculpting are so popular is that you can return to work immediately after the procedure. Even though there’s no downtime after the treatment, that doesn’t mean you don’t experience some side effects.

Because it’s a noninvasive treatment, the recovery following a CoolSculpting treatment is much more manageable than following a surgical fat reduction procedure such as liposuction. Still, you can expect to experience some swelling, a numb sensation, and soreness following your procedure. Using the tips provided in this blog post can help reduce recovery time.

Making the Most of Your Results

Before you even leave our office, we can help optimize your results using Zimmer ZWave immediately after your CoolSculpting procedure. The ZWave is an innovative treatment that takes the place of manual massage that other practices often perform following a CoolSculpting treatment. In addition to breaking down frozen fat and encouraging the lymphatic system to flush out dead fat cells, ZWave helps smooth the skin by breaking down fibrous tissues and stimulating collagen production. This can help you see results sooner.

CoolSculpting Recovery Tips

Here are some ways to help you recover after a CoolSculpting treatment:

Keep massaging the treatment area: Fat cells gradually die after being “frozen” by the CoolSculpting treatment. Massaging the targeted area a few times a day for several days helps the body naturally remove the dead cells.

Apply warm compresses: You can help reduce soreness by applying compresses or a heating pad to the treatment area. Heat stimulates blood flow and circulation, easing discomfort.

Wear a compression garment: Wearing a tight-fitting garment such as Spanx® around the CoolSculpting treatment area helps reduce swelling and alleviate any discomfort you may experience.

Wear loose clothes: OK, this may seem odd after recommending that you wear compression garments. But you should also avoid wearing skinny jeans or other uncomfortable clothes while you’re still dealing with swelling or soreness.

Stay hydrated: This is a good idea in general, but it’s especially important to drink plenty of water after CoolSculpting treatments because it speeds up the process of flushing dead fat cells from the body. You should also avoid salty foods.

When Will You See the Results?

CoolSculpting results emerge gradually over 2 to 3 months. Some patients, including those featured in our gallery of CoolSculpting before-and-after photos, are shown a few months after a single treatment session. Many patients schedule a second or third treatment to enhance their results. Each person is unique, and your experience may differ.
