The Power of Light: Brighten Your Skin With an IPL Photofacial

Woman in Dallas, TX who received an IPL Photofacial to brighten her skin

If you spent a long summer under the hot Texas sun, your skin might have a significant amount of damage. Sun spots, redness, and other blemishes can appear if you forget to wear sunscreen while outdoors. For those looking to brighten their complexion and fade imperfections this fall, an IPL photofacial is an excellent option. Our Dallas patients love this quick and easy treatment that restores a beautiful, natural-looking glow.

What is an IPL photofacial treatment? How does it work?

Photofacials fade imperfections and improve skin texture in a safe, effective manner. They use pulses of light to reach deep layers of the skin, and reversing the signs of aging. The procedure is noninvasive and can fix skin damage without disrupting or penetrating the skin. There is little downtime required after an IPL treatment, making it an easy procedure to fit into a busy schedule.

Who is a good candidate for IPL?

Good candidates for IPL are those who want to diminish the signs of aging such as sun spots or freckles. IPL also repairs the appearance of small blood vessels and addresses pigmentation issues, so it’s terrific for easing the redness of rosacea and reducing brown spots.

If you’re interested in treatment, you should avoid waxing, sunbathing, or using tanning beds before your session. Let your provider know if you have any preexisting skin conditions such as inflammatory acne or eczema.

What happens during an IPL treatment session?

The session begins with your provider cleaning the treatment area. A numbing agent is applied to the skin, and the glass applicator is placed on the target location. Pulses of light are administered and may slightly sting the skin. Most treatment sessions last around 30 to 45 minutes.

Side effects are minimal, but for 1 to 2 days, you may experience slight redness or darkening of your brown spots. Your skin may also be slightly sensitive after treatment, so avoid hot water until your skin heals and stay out of direct sunlight.

When will I see results from my IPL treatment?

After only one treatment, you will already see a smoother tone to your skin. However, we usually recommend a series of 5 to 6 IPL treatment sessions for the best possible results. If you want to enhance the effectiveness of your IPL session, consider combining it with a HydraFacial®. The cool, gentle exfoliation of a HydraFacial cleanses your skin and primes it for your photofacial.
