A Beginner’s Guide to Lip Injections

Woman in Dallas, TX considering her options for lip injections

Lip injections with dermal fillers like JUVÉDERM® are popular with our Dallas patients and celebrities alike. They are an easy way to rejuvenate the face and plump up the lips—all without the need for surgery. It truly takes an artist’s touch to preserve the natural architecture of the lip, while still giving fullness and shape. Our team of expert injectors has helped countless women get the lips they’ve always wanted. But how do you know if this treatment is right for you?

If you’re interested in lip fillers but feel a bit nervous, don’t worry. You’re definitely not alone. In this blog post, we’ll outline the basics of lip injections and teach you everything you need to know about fillers.

How Lip Fillers Work

As we age, our face naturally loses collagen and fat, which can lead to thinness in the lips. Lip injections help correct this issue through the use of dermal fillers. The active ingredient in these fillers is hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance in the body. By tapping into the water within your lips and hydrating the underlying tissue, hyaluronic acid adds subtle, natural-looking volume that makes your lips plumper. In some cases, you can enhance your lip filler results with BOTOX® Cosmetic injections to reduce the appearance of fine lines around the mouth.

What To Expect at Your First Dermal Fillers Appointment

You should arrive at your first filler appointment fresh-faced and without makeup. After making you comfortable inside the treatment room, your provider will begin a series of careful injections. Using an extremely fine needle, they will add the gel-like filler into the target areas. Any discomfort can be easily managed with a numbing agent (such as lidocaine) or simply apply an ice pack afterward.

The appointment typically takes between 15 to 20 minutes. Patients can return to their daily routine immediately after treatment.

Lip Filler Tips and Tricks

  • Start small: When first starting lip injections, consider beginning with a small amount of filler. If you enjoy your results, you can build up to a larger amount over time.
  • Swollen lips? Don’t panic: Your lips may appear “overfull” immediately after treatment. This swelling is natural and will subside. Your final results will be visible after a few days. • Results aren’t permanent: Dermal fillers are absorbed by the body over time and will eventually fade. However, if you wish to reverse your results sooner for any reason, a different injectable (hyaluronidase) can break down the hyaluronic acid.

Lip injections can plump the lips and give a feminine boost to your appearance. If you’re interested in fillers, be sure to find an experienced injector you can trust.
