Jawline Contouring: Why KYBELLA® Is the Cosmetic Dermatology Treatment to Try

Woman in Dallas, TX considering Kybella to re-define her jawline

Sharp, defined jawlines are taking the spotlight today, from Instagram to the red carpet. Jawline contouring is quickly becoming one of the biggest trends in aesthetics, and luckily, plastic surgery isn’t the only solution. You can achieve a slimmer, more sculpted jawline with injectable KYBELLA® at our cosmetic dermatology practice in Dallas. We’ve seen high demand for this FDA-approved, minimally invasive treatment, and with its limited downtime and great results, it’s easy to see why.

Read on to learn more about how KYBELLA works, what to expect during your appointment, and why it may be your jawline contouring secret weapon.

What is jawline contouring?

Jawline contouring is an aesthetic approach to slimming, sculpting, and defining the chin and jaw. A clear separation between the face and neck frames your face and creates a more flatting, youthful shape. Sharp jawlines and slender necks have been hallmarks of classic beauty since the days of Audrey Hepburn. Today, celebrities such as Ariana Grande continue to popularize the look on the stage and social media.

Why is jawline contouring becoming more popular?

If you’ve ever experimented with photo filters and editing apps such as FaceTune, you’ll know these tools make it easier than ever to visualize your appearance with subtle enhancements, including a slimmer jawline. Additionally, if all those Zoom calls while working from home have you noticing your neck more than before, you’re not alone. Harper’s Bazaar reports interest in aesthetics overall is on the rise, and it’s a trend we’ve certainly noticed in our own office.

What are the best treatments for jawline contouring?

There are a number of options, from facelift surgery to liposuction. However, KYBELLA is an excellent jawline contouring treatment because it delivers slimming results without the incisions and downtime required with surgery.

KYBELLA breaks down the dietary fat under the chin that leads to submental fullness or a “double chin.” Reducing this extra fullness reveals natural definition in the jaw and chin, bringing out a more sculpted shape. It’s popular for both women and men, which you can learn more about in this previous blog post.

Hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Juvederm Voluma XC, can also be injected along the jawline to create contour and shape.  A beautiful, sharp jawline can be created anteriorly (near the chin) or posteriorly (near earlobe) to give the appearance of a defined, sweeping jawline.  When combined with Kybella, which is injected under the chin and jawline, this treatment can build a beautiful aesthetic in both men and women.

Risks of injection of fillers include bruising, swelling, and rarely, inadvertent injection into vessels, which is thankfully uncommon.  However, it is important to see a board-certified dermatologist to ensure safety and efficacy.  Most fillers last about a year, with some, such as Voluma XC, lasting up to two years.  Here at DCDA, during your cosmetic consultation we will discuss fillers, Kybella, or both to determine the best option for optimization of your desired look.

What is it like to get a KYBELLA treatment?

During a KYBELLA treatment, you will receive a series of up to 50 injections under your chin. The whole process typically takes about 20 to 30 minutes. You’ll likely have swelling in the area, which usually peaks around Day 2 or 3.

Your results will develop gradually over 4 to 6 weeks as the product works to dissolve away excess fat cells. Most people see their best results with 2 to 4 treatments spaced about a month apart.
